Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has announced that it will introduce IWC Connect, an intelligent device that will be embedded into the straps of timepieces from the firm.
It is designed to allow wearers control over a number of devices connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) and offer fully-fledged activity tracking.
IWC has confirmed that it will be introduced first, starting with the Big Pilot’s Watches range, but will continue with future watch releases from the company.
Unlike a smartwatch, the IWC Connect maintains the integrity of each handcrafted timekeeper, whilst allowing the owner to control their connected environment directly from their wrist.
“Seeing that many of our customers and brand ambassadors are wearing connected devices alongside their IWC watches, we chose to work with a like-minded digital technology company to develop an elegant, aesthetically complementary solution that eliminates the need to have additional devices on the opposing wrist to your IWC,” explains Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.
“But, and this is essential, we do not touch our beautiful watches –an ‘IWC’ stays a mechanical handcrafted timepiece. We’ve engineered an intelligent design solution which perfectly integrates and underlines our product worlds” adds Kern.
Earlier this month, IWC announced the launch of the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Le Petit Prince”, which will support the The Antoine de Saint Exupéry Youth Foundation.
IWC has promised that further information and a launch date will be available “in the coming months”. Stay tuned to WatchesIndex for more on that.
